2020 Serie A Favourites
The Italian most prestigious league is coming back on its old glory. After spending over a decade fighting scandals with match-fixing and involvement of the Italian mafia, the clubs are finally in the spotlight. They are being recognized as some of the best in Europe and the world. Judging from their recent transfer and policies, this season will be excellent to watch.
Although Juventus dominated the league in recent years, the 2019/2020 season will be a spectacle. Each club in Italy is hungry and motivated to win the title, and they will surely give Juventus a hard time. Online betting sites like novibet.co.uk are placing Inter as the biggest title challengers, so it will be fun to watch how the season will play out. Let’s check out some of the biggest favourites to lift the Serie A trophy.
Atalanta
This may come as a surprise, but make no mistake, Atalanta is on fire recently. With 5 wins in the last 7 games, they proved that they mean business. The team was promoted from Serie B in 2010 and since then, they have made fantastic progress. Atalanta is the big, unexpected problem that all other favourites in this list will have to deal with if they want to be a good title challenger, but judging from the current standings, La Dea is not planning on cracking down under pressure.
Napoli
New year, same Napoli. They are one of the best teams in Italy, but somehow always fall one step behind Juventus. The closest finish that the club had was in the 2017/2018 season where they were just 4 points behind Juve after having one draw and one lost game in their last 5. This season, Napoli is determined to take the Old Lady off the throne and finally claim their long-awaited title. Manolas, Elmas, and Ospina have been a refreshment during the summer transfer period and they are expected have a massive contribution.
Inter
Who else would hate Juventus more, if not Inter? The historic rival made some fantastic transfers during the summer. They signed Romelu Lukaku, Diego Godin, Alexis Sanchez, and got themselves a new fantastic coach – Antonio Conte. The club had a terrific start of the season and even though the loss on Derby d’Italia (read the match review at BBC.co.uk) cost them the first spot, they are still in the race. Inter will be the biggest title challenger this year.
Juventus
Lastly, we have the Old Lady. If they manage to win this season’s Serie A, they will have their 9th consecutive title in the championship. Juve is also considered as one of the favourites to win the CL and they plan to aim for both titles. Sarri is their new coach, after joining them from Chelsea. There are some new tactics and a new style of play, but the team is adjusting to it. Maurizio prefers the faster and more attacking playing style, rather than the more defensive and tactical approach that the club had under Allegri. But since they have fast and skilled players like Douglas Costa, Dybala, Cuadrado, Ramsey, Alex Sandro, and many more, the adaptation process should not take very long.
